Mauritius, officially the Republic of Mauritius, is an island nation in the Indian Ocean. The main Island of Mauritius is located about 2,000 kilometres (1,200 mi) off the southeast coast of the African continent. The Republic of Mauritius includes the islands of Rodrigues, Agalega and St. Brandon. The capital and largest city Port Louis is located on the main island of Mauritius.

The estimated resident population of the Republic of Mauritius was 1,265,577 as at 1st July 2018. As at mid-2018, the female population outnumbered the male population by 13,169. The population on the island of Mauritius is 1,222,268, and that of Rodrigues island is 43,035; Agalega and Saint Brandon had an estimated total population of 274. Mauritius has the highest population density in Africa.
